Mentorship Program

GCI has been in partnership with the Oakland Education Fund and Fremont High School to form a mentorship program between high school students who are interested in construction and a group of enthusiastic GCI mentors.
This mentorship gave students a space to freely discuss their future, learn about careers in construction, ask questions, and have an adult to check in with on a regular basis who is dedicated to them and invested in their future.

The 2023 – 2024 school year was our pilot program. It consisted of bi-monthly site visits to Fremont High School, two field trips, and career-focused presentations by each mentor.

Out of the thirty participating students, two have been selected from this program to intern at GCI this Summer.

Students and mentors gathered at one of our jobsites in the city for some hands-on learning. A huge thank you to our nine GCI mentors for their dedication, energy, expertise and time.
